Try One of the Fruit or Berry
Flavored Syrup Recipes!

Summer Sweet!

Make fruit and berry flavored syrup recipes for your icy treats. This redcurrant syrup is perfect with a vanilla ice cream.

Or you could try it with a chocolate dessert.
Syrups aren't just for pancakes! And red currants can be used for so much more than just jelly.

Ingredients:

7 oz (200 grams) red currants
¾ cup (200 ml) cane sugar
1 vanilla bean
4½ fl oz (150 ml) water
4½ fl oz (150 ml) orange juice (with flesh)

Method:

Cut the vanilla and scrape the seeds from the bean. Combine the red currants, water, orange juice, vanilla seeds and bean in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and let it simmer for about 30 minutes. Strain the mixture and return to a clean saucepan. Simmer for another 10 minutes, by this time the syrup should have thickened and you will have about 1 cup (250 ml) of syrup.

This redcurrant syrup should be served warm. It keeps in the refrigerator for about a week and you can just warm it gently over low heat before serving.

Fruit flavored syrup recipes are great with desserts, try this syrup with a vanilla ice cream.
